When cardiac arrest strikes, it’s a split second decision to try to save someone’s life. To get down on your knees and begin CPR, starting immediately and not stopping until you get a response. CPR, or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation as it is formally known, is an emergency procedure that can save a person’s life if their breathing or heart stops. When a person’s heart stops beating, they’re in cardiac arrest. If it is not treated properly and promptly, it will cause death within 10 minutes.

You’ve probably seen CPR on television.

A real life truth of CPR on television rarely conveys is how long it can take and how exhausting CPR can be.

Imagine seeing a life drain away because you’re too fatigued to keep pushing? The nursing staff at Werribee Mercy Hospital work hard all year round but never harder than when they’re taking turns at CPR in the wards on a patient in cardiac arrest. But in hospitals around the world and right here in the City of Wyndham, it’s commonplace.

However, there is a great new solution to this scenario. It’s called the Corpuls CPR Device and we’re fundraising to buy one for Werribee Mercy Hospital’s ICU ward.

The device performs mechanical chest compressions, and today is saving lives around the world. It can here too with your support. The Corpuls device is designed to perform high quality CPR in emergency response situations where prolonged resuscitation is required.

Vitally, the Corpuls provides high quality, uninterrupted CPR and a mechanical device will avoid the situation where CPR is compromised because of staff fatigue. Problem solved. More patients stay alive, and healthcare workers avoid undue stress and trauma.

The cost of the Corpuls is $32,700. A spare battery is available at a cost of $1,200 and is highly recommended. Our fundraising target is therefore $33,900. With a growing community of generous supporters like you, that translates as 135 people contributing $250 each, or 270 donating $125. We can do this if we all pitch in, whatever we can manage right now. It doesn’t have to be a large amount – we know family and loved ones come first.

The device will be based in ICU and deployed as part of the rapid response team’s life-saving efforts in adult and paediatric Code Blues throughout the Hospital. A Corpuls can be the difference between life and death.

Today and every day, including 24/7 across the holiday period, your local public hospital and its dedicated health workers are here for our community with around the clock care. Please join me in helping save the lives of local people and relieve stress on your local health workers this year. We need community support to make our local hospital the best it can be, every hour of every day and week of the year for you and your love ones.
